Every so often we find an item of news that leaves us both incredulous and disgusted; the following article is a case in point.

Yesterday, the 26th of January, 17-month-old Alicia succumbed to her injuries after having been hurled from a 1st-floor window the previous day. The window was closed at the time so there was a double impact; one as her tiny body impacted and broke through the pane, and the second when she hit the ground.

The man who allegedly did it was the 30-year-old boyfriend of the 18-year-old mother – the child was hers from a previous relationship.

Circumstances suggest that the young mother entered the room to find the man on top of the child, sexually abusing her which immediately led to a violent struggle during which the suspect, D.M. – who is a music teacher at a conservatory in Vitoria – allegedly snatched up the baby and threw her through the closed window.

Again, according to the police, he then tried to do the same to the mother, who defended herself with a shard of glass, inflicted several cuts to his face.

The result was that all three ended up in hospital; the man in the psychiatric wing. The mother, whose condition is said to be serious, was momentarily transferred to where her child was fighting for her life, to be with her in her final moments.
