49CC’s and Senseless

AND Dangerous bikerYoung teenagers do incredibly stupid things on mopeds, but one lad in particular had a 5-year-old on his handlebars when the police spotted him.

Needless to say he had neither a driving licence or valid motor insurance.

It was in the early afternoon on the 1st of May last year when he whistled by a local-police patrol in the centre of Granada. They tried to wave him down but he sped off with the toddler balancing gleefully on the handlebars.

In his flight he sped across a pedestrian area to throw off the police. He was finally cornered however and booked.

He was eventually brought before a minors’ magistrate who found him guilty of putting the lives of others at risk through reckless driving (the before mentioned pedestrians and the child on his handlebars, and riding a moped without ever having obtained a licence.)

He was sentenced to 55 hours of community work, mainly in the main hospital, to help victims of road accidents, so that he can see firsthand the consequences of reckless behaviour at the controls of a vehicle.

Editorial comment: off with his pods!
