The American couple who were arrested after the body of their son was found in their family home have been released on bail pending trial.

The couple were unable or unwilling to explain how long ago the child had died – estimated at between one and three months – or why they had not reported it, so the charge of manslaughter through negligence has been upheld.

The couple, Bruce and Schrell H, aged 39 and 38 and from Detroit, explained that the boy had respiratory problems and one morning he simply did not wake up.

The Public Prosecutor, Enrique Barata, explained that the parents had tried to cure him using homeopathic treatments.
