Jete Road Accident

ALM Jete Road Accident OnLTwo cars were involved in a head-on collision on the Otivar road, just along from the Virgen de las Aguas below Jete.

A small car driven by a German man appears to have taken a bend too fast and ploughed into the front of a 4×4 coming up in the opposite direction.

The two people in the small car were uninjured but the middle-aged driver of the 4×4 (SUV) was complaining of pains in his chest and shortness of breath, but it could have been from impacting against the steering wheel, he said.

Whereas the ambulance took about 20 minutes to arrive, the Guardia Civil took over 45 minutes, leaving stopped drivers to control the traffic between them as the accident had occurred between two blind bends.

Drivers who are unaccustomed to the road surface on those bends fail to realize that they are like ice-skating rinks owing to the damp in the shadows. This year it is worse because as there have been no rains, tyre-rubber deposits are also building up on the tarmac, together with autumnal fallen leaves.

Speaking with one of the drivers helping out, he explained that he owned the land bordering the road and that there were two or three cases of cars skidding off the road at that point every year. Complaints have been made to the road authorities but to date nothing has been done about it.
