Readers of the paper edition of the Gazette will have seen the advert at the back, with photos of dogs in need of homes. We want to tell you who is behind them.
The Asociacion Protectora de animales y del Medio Ambiente is the result of several like-minded individuals coming together to do something about abandoned dogs, cruelty to animals and to foster a better care of our environment.
APAMA’s top priority is to set up a municipal animal shelter for Almuñécar & La Herradura, where mistreated or abandoned animals can be taken for rehab and a temporary home until permanent ones are found.
At the moment they are working with individual homes for temporary lodgings. They have had around 30 such locations, provided by volunteers, throughout the year, they’re running out of such ‘foster owners – there are always more cases of animals in need than homes in which to keep them, even if it only be temporarily until new permanent homes are found.
So, they have a long ‘needs’ list, which includes, new members, temporary lodgings for individual animals, volunteers, people able to find homes abroad – i.e., have contacts there, donations, both material and monetary and teamers (micro donations). We at the Gazette are putting our online version at their disposal, as around 50% of our online readers live abroad – we have approximately 7,000 visits a month.
Those wishing to make a donation can do so by making a transfer to ES73 0487 3248 15 2000079820. You can also find out more about them from their facebook page. A.P.A.M.A
