Two men were caught in Motril with 113 balls of hashish hidden in their bowels. The Spanish term for this kind of smuggling is muleros or correos.

The two men, aged 39 and 58, were travelling in a saloon car and were intercepted by the Policía Nacional on one of the entrance junctions to the town.

The total amount of the ‘shipment’ was 1,139 grams; in other words, a little more than a kilo between them.

It was a routine road check and the two men would never have been rumbled if they had not been so visibly nervous. The police searched the car and then took them to Motril Hospital for an X-ray, where the balls were discovered.
