The police have arrested two men, one of whom is from Almuñécar, over forged bank notes and the illegal possession of firearms.
Having convincing proof to justify a house search, the Guardia Civil obtained a search warrant to search the house of Francisco José P.V. in Almuñécar.
Upon arrival at the house the man handed over a plastic bag containing a pistol which had been modified, together with a box containing 30 rounds of 38 caibre. The bag also contained 129 forged, 50-euro notes.
The accused knew what the bag held and explained that it had been handed to him by Hiroshi A.R. to look after it.
When the house of this second man was searched, the police turned up 39 forged 50-euro notes. The combined value of the two batches of forged notes was 8,400 euros, which the men allegedly intended to put into local circulation.
The Public Prosecutor has recommended a prison term of nine years and six months for each of the accused, as well as a fine of 8,400 euros. They will appear in court on the 17th and 18th of this month.
