Almuñécar & Herradura Rain Toll

LHR Beach Road Damage OnLLike Motril and Salobreña, these two most westerly towns of the Costa Tropical also had their flooding problems – again!

The mini weather station at the Vivero La Mezquita in La Herradura registered almost 50L per sq/m on that recent waterlogged morning; for the Brits, that’s two inches of rain.

The worst hit areas of the village were, logically, where the ramblas and barrancos spill out across the beach road; i.e., the Rambla de Las Tejas, El Barranquillo and the Rambla del Espinar.

Of course, the streets that are dug up in the old town for underground infrastructure replacement produced a lot of mud further down, too.

Meanwhile, over in Almuñécar, the Lone Ranger, disguised as a door, had his knob shot off… oops sorry! I meant; over in Almuñécar, Taramay and Torrecuevas, amongst other areas, took a pounding.

In the case of the latter, the road looked like an assault course with the habitual offenders spewing mud and stones onto this well transited road. By habitual offenders, we mean the track under the autovia bridge, the barranco that runs under a house further towards Almuñécar, and the track right next to the school’s zebra crossing.

Editorial comment: Every time it rains the same thing happens at these three points. There’s money for pompous flag ceremonies, for superfluous roundabouts and doubly superfluous and equally tasteless roundabout adornments (Los Pinos)… but there is no money to put these infrastructure defects to right, no matter how dangerous they are for road users and pedestrians.
