Motril says goodbye to its oldest resident, Elisa Maldonado Merlo, who had witnessed 105 years of local history in her lifetime.
She leaves behind, four (elderly) children, a host of grandchildren, an army of great-grandchildren and a small nation of great-great-grandchildren… and a cat.
Elisa was born in Gualchos on the 24th of August, 1910. She became an orphan when she was just a little girl, living in Granada in an orphanage. She met who was to be her husband on a trip to Torrenueva to visit her sisters. They married when she was 17 years old.
The couple lived in Adra until 1941 before moving to the Motril Port area where she lived until 1975. Her last residence was in the Rambla de Capuchinos.
She passed away last Friday, the 18th – pretty good innings, all told!
