A man is holed up in his father’s bar in Torre del Mar, armed with a shotgun, threatening to shoot anybody who approaches.

The incident started this morning at 11.45 in a bar where Calle Copo crosses Calle Duque de Ahumada. The whole area has been cordoned off by the police.

The man’s wife has been allowed to approach the entrance after having spoken with him by phone. He refused to speak with her, though.

It appears that the man, Gustavo Sánchez, had some kind of dispute with the president of the apartment-block association of Edificio Puerto Rico and that this is the reason behind the man’s actions.

The said president has also contacted the man to try to convince him to give himself up – to no avail, however.

Update: 18.29h:
The man has since given himself up after four hours of stand-off with the Policia Nacional.

He walked out of the bar with his T-shirt over his head and his hands out in front of him at 15.45h.

He was immediately arrested and charged with causing a public disturbance and disobedience before the law.

The shotgun, which had already been made unserviceable prior to the incident, was confiscated.
