There have been numerous complaints by holiday makers in Salobreña over the state of the beach and sea water in front of the paseo repair work.
The complaints have come from people renting flats and owners of second homes nearby; i.e., From Salomar 2000 to the river (Playa de la Charca).
According to one disgruntled flat owner who had come down to Salobreña from Granada to enjoy his July holidays, there are some 800 flats in the before-mentioned area, most of which are in use at the moment… and many people are grumpy over the murky state of the water, caused by the new ‘sand’ having recently trucked in, and by building waste appearing actually on
the beach.
Winter storms collapsed part of the paseo after waves undermined the sea wall making the area a hazard for pedestrians – a road-sweeping buggy actually managed to get partially swallowed by one of the craters in the paseo pavement!
Emergency funds were a little late in arriving, causing this very necessary repair work to be tardy in commencing and consequentially, for it to extend well into the summer holiday season.
The end result is disgruntled holiday makers finding the beach in front of the apartments clearly unusable, or in the very least, not very appetizing: muddy water and no beach showers, etc.
They could, of course, walk 100 yards or so and find everything that they are looking for… but if you pay around 1,500 euros per week for a holiday let, you don’t expect to have to walk, right?
Anyway, the Town Hall is very apologetic; the Mayor, Mª Eugenia Rufino, explained that they were doing all they could and apologize for the inconvenience caused. As for the lack of street lighting in the area, she said that temporary lighting would be installed later this week.
