A woman in La Palma (Canary Islands) died in hospital after her ex-boyfriend reportedly threw gasoline over her and set light to her.
Laura, a 27-year-old mother, was working as a shop assistant in a shoe shop when 30-year-old, David. B.P. walked in and emptied a canister of gasoline over her then ignited it, according to two eye witnesses.
She was rushed to hospital with 90% burns and soon succumbed to this massive injury.
Immediately after the attack, according to eye witnesses, the man had walked up the street to a nearby medical centre to have his burns treated, even as the woman was being carried out of the shop, which was full of smoke.
A passersby located two policemen on patrol and explained what had just happened, pointing in which direction the man had walked off.
The victim and alleged assailant had lived together and have a daughter.
David B.P., whose own medical condition is serious, remains hospitalized with serious burns.
Although Laura had never reported him for gender violence, her friends and family say that the reason that she left him was for precisely that reason.
