Update 07/07-18.56:
Motril Councillor for Citizen Safety, María Ángeles Escámez, announced that the town’s emergency services are coordinating with Andalusian fores-fire service, Infoca.
The Motril Fire Chief has been coordinating at the command post and volunteers from Motril Protección Civil are helping with the evacuation of residents from their homes in the path of the flames.
It appears that the fire was caused by sparks from a H/T pylon.
At present there are now 12 aircraft involved and seven ground units and an elite, back-up group (BRICA).
Bear in mind that Infoca simutaneously has 14 aircraft, 14 ground squads, two BRICA’s, six fire trucks deployed as well as a mobile Comms & Met unit, in Jaen in the devastating and ongoing Quesada forest fire.
To complicate matters, 27 minutes ago yet another fire was declared in Jaen in Puerta de Segura, requiring more aircraft and ground units. That’s three forest fires active in the provinces of Granada and Jaén
