Lucky Escape from Fire

The Policía Nacional in Motril managed to rescue a 52-year-old, unconscious woman from a fire in her flat.

A concerned neighbour had phoned the emergency services to say that a lot of smoke was coming from a next-door neighbour’s flat.

First on the scene were the said police officers, who started to evacuate other block residents and when they called at the door of the flat concerned they obtained no answer.

They managed to gain entry to the flat and despite the poor visibility caused by the copious amount of dense smoke inside, they located the victim on the floor and managed to drag her out.

The fire was coming from the kitchen and the police officers were able to smother it themselves without requiring the assistance of the fire service.

The woman is recovering from smoke inhalation at the Santa Ana Hospital.
