No Doggy Beach This Summer

MOT dog beach OnLMotril Councillors Alicia Crespo and David Martín, announced that the doggy beach won’t be available during the summer.

Apparently and according to them the previous administration were not exactly overdosing on alacrity over getting the paperwork sorted out on this issue.

Anyway, the Town-Hall crew are shuffling documents between Motril and the Junta to get the said canine-destined beach functional as soon as possible.

The problem is the existing law RD 194/1998 which for hygiene reasons forbids pets access to the beach and bathing areas between the 1st of June and the 30th of September. The new Town Council doesn’t want to get its fingers burnt by turning a blind eye to the law, especially as “somebody” would use it as a stick to hit them with.

Councillor Crespo points out that, yes, last year pets had access to the said beach, but only because the previous administration simply altered the local bylaws even though such an alteration needs to be authorized by the regional, state and European authorities.

So, the first thing that the Town Council is declassify that beach as ‘apt for bathing’ in the national beach registry. This should have been done in February, but it wasn’t (hint).

So, although you have been able to use the beach – Playa Cable, I seem to remember – to walk your dog all winter, you cannot do it now and could get fined.
