There has been a kitchen fire in a Restaurant/Cafeteria on the Balcón de Europa in Nerja causing the 50-odd customers to evacuate.
The apart-hotel on the second floor was also evacuated by the firemen while they dealt with the localized fire, caused by a deep fat fryer catching alight.
The incident occurred at 14.30h on the 31st of May, with the terrace tables full of customers, but fortunately nobody was hurt, although one of the kitchen staff had to be attended to suffering from shock.
By 16.30h the firemen had finished ventilating the building and shortly afterwards the guests from the apart-hotel were allowed to return to their rooms.
Cafeteria owner, Damián Toboso, said that whilst he lamented what had happened, he was glad that that only material damage had occurred and that nobody was injured. He also promised that as soon as they had taken stock of the damage, they would be hard at work getting the establishment reopened as soon as possible.
