A woman facing eviction has camped out in the Motril Town Hall and there she threatens to remain until she is given somewhere permanent to live.
Encarnación Fernández, who suffers from two disc hernias and arthrosis, has already knocked up four days in her ‘new residence.’ She has only left here ‘post’ to receive treatment at the nearest medical centre.
In the meantime the Town Hall, in a document requiring her signature, offered her six months ‘social salary,’ free, school lunches for her only child that still lives with her and a flat with a low rent. However, she has refused to sign it as she considers that it “doesn’t solve anything.”
She does, however, have a document signed by the Andalusian Housing Agency, which states that the Town Hall has to find her somewhere to live – the Town Hall, on the other hand, says that this is outside its obligations.
If the eviction order is executed, she will lose her house on the 2nd of June – which is the date that she intends to reach during her sit in.
She also says that the Junta is negotiating with the bank for them to let her remain in her house paying a ‘social rent;’ i.e., a symbolic one, but she doesn’t hold out much hope on it working out.
