Village Day Centre for the Elderly

LHR Elderly Day Centre OnLThe Day Centre for the Elderly in La Herradura will soon be up and running – they’re just finishing off furnishing the premises.

When we say ‘furnishing,’ we mean both with furniture, as well as equipping the centre with exercise apparatus and other machinery, for example.

The centre will be a tremendous asset for those suffering from Alzheimer’s and those that look after them.

This new premises is located in the old pediatrician’s surgery on Calle Alhambra, had the conversion work carried out by local builders, Chopi La Herradura SL, working with a budget of 12,000 euros. Whoever decided on that amount was still working with pesetas, obviously.
The First Councillor for the village, Juan José Ruiz Joya, explained that the centre would be jointly run by the Asociación de Familiares enfermos de Alzheimer (Afavida).

“With this centre, we are responding by providing the necessary treatment for the elderly with dementia problems, so that they have a peaceful and adequate space where they can receive the necessary attention to stimulate their memories.”

The centre will be open from 10.00h to 13.30h, three days a week: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

At the same time the centre is organizing an activities programme to be carried out in workshops – they are looking at holding them on Tuesdays and Thursday from 10.00h to 13.30h. These workshops will be to improve users’ self-esteem, develop their social skills and maintain psychomotricity.

If you want to put a family member’s name down, you can do it in the Centro Cívico on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday by contacting the Social Worker there between 10.00h and 13.00h.
