As the property, which is next door to Casa Garach, belongs to the Town Hall, the Mancomunidad de la Costa Tropical will pay for the demolition work, costing 18,246 euros. Why is the Mancomunidad paying? Because, Casa Garach is to be the offices of the Mancomunidad.
Originally, the demolition costs were included within the budget of doing up Casa Garach, but as there was a functioning business premises on the ground floor of the house to be demolish, it was finally left out.
A further house, next to the one being demolished but in private ownership, will also be demolished simultaneously, thanks to an agreement struck with the demolition company.
The demolition work will conclude this weekend and the vacant site walled in before the Easter processions begin, promises the Mayor.
In the last quarter of last year, the Town Hall carried out a total of five compulsory demolitions; two in Calle Tito Alto, one in Calle Buenavista and two more in Calle Gracia and Calle Portugueses.
A further eleven properties are earmarked and in the last stages of the necessary paperwork.
