The Unfinished Caleta Housing

SAL Caleta VPOs OnLThe VPO’s (government subsidised housing) at the entrance to La Caleta, Salobreña have long been causing headaches.

Yes, headaches, not least for those families that placed deposits on what was to going to be their new homes. But they’re also a headache for the Town Hall, because, naturally, those affected look to them for solutions.

These half-finished dwellings have been systematically gutted and the whole building site is full of dangerous obstacles for the unwary passerby.

So, the Town Hall pledged to tidy up, at the very least, the area, using a bank guarantee placed by the developers, Dolmen, who are now in receivership.

Accordingly, the pavement, tarmacked access lanes and the housing’s communal square have had work done on them for safety’s sake. Doors and windows have also been bricked up in these two months that this kind of work has been going on.

Naturally, with the regional elections in four days, the First Councillor for La Caleta has been out shaking hands with the workmen on site…
