The Policia Local in Granada managed to subdue a drunken British student who had be risking his life on a 6-storey balcony in the city.

The young man, who was on an Erasmus, student exchange, had climbed over the guardrail, with his back to it, inching his way along. As he had chosen to do it at eight in the morning, overlooking the busy street of Camino de Ronda, he soon attracted attention.

Onlookers at first thought that somebody was about to commit suicide (in a sense, they were right) and alerted the police who rushed around only to find a grinning, drunken Brit – highly unusual.

The room looked like a bomb had hit it, as they had evidently had an all-night party.

With the help of two other British students that shared the flat, the police managed to yank him back into the room.

As an aside, the conversation that went on between the policemen in Spanish, and the one in English between the three students, each party confident that the other party didn’t understand, would have made good reading!

Anyway, he was a corpulent lad (over a hundred kilos) and was highly agitated, so they slapped cuffs on him to calm him down. In fact, the ambulance men later had trouble getting him into the ambulance, so the police cuffed him again and took him to hospital in the patrol car were he was interned to sleep it off.

Yes, you have to be intelligent to get into university, that’s for certain…
