According to a press release from the Almuñécar Town Hall, Plaza de Madrid will soon sport a finished, whole new look, complete with a fountain.
The fountain will have a main water jet surrounded by six smaller water jets. The fountain and Fisherman’s Statue will be illuminated using LED lighting.
A local building company, Construcciones El Rancho, landed the contract, with its 16,000-euro budget.
A couple of the raised gardened areas will disappear and the areas off the square will be resurfaced.
The Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, considers that this work, combined with many others going on around town “contributes a new image to many urban areas.”
Editorial comment: Is this work really necessary, given how tight things continue to be? Together with the decoration of the N-340 roundabout below Los Pinos, such financial outlay is difficult to justify as a priority.
The work all around town, separating the rain drain system from the sewage system is another matter and was long overdue.
