An administrative legal body has temporarily frozen the Government’s plan to grant 25m euros to Málaga and Almería Ports to the detriment of Motril Port.
The Tribunal Administrativo Central de Recursos Contractuales, whose task it is to process complaints against public grants & contracts, considered that if the grants were to go ahead whilst the appeal is still being processed, it would be very prejudicial for Motril Port, even if they were to win the case.
In other words, the damage could not be undone if the ferry company abandoned Motril in the meantime in order to be eligible for the grants. Therefore, the tribunal has ordered that the whole grant process be halted whilst the appeal is being considered.
A small victory for Motril Port, but a victory, nevertheless. Now all hopes are on either winning the appeal or that the Central Government reconsiders its plainly unfair course of action, either by including Motril within the grant or opting for subsidizing the passage tickets rather than the ferry operating port.
