The said day centre will be housed in the old paediatrics clinic on Calle Alhambra, said the First Councillor for the village, Sr. Ruiz Joya.
The Day Centre will have workshops for cognitive stimulation for Alzheimer sufferers as well as one for improving mobility.
A local building company, Chopi La Herradura SL, landed the contract for the premises conversion work, which has a budget of 12,000 euros, which is exactly 2-million pesetas… God knows that if I hadn’t mentioned that, I would have burst a blood vessel and you wouldn’t have wanted that, would you!
The day centre will be run by the Asociación de Familiares enfermos de Alzheimer (Afavida), and will be open from 10.00h to 13.30h, three days a week: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, once conversion work is completed.
You can apply for a space at the day centre in the village’s Centro Cívico, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays through the Social Worker there (Trabajadora Social), from 10.00h to 13.00h. At present the centre already has the names of 13 users.
But you don’t have to be an Alzheimer’s sufferer to qualify for the use of the installations because it will also be open to any person who: “owing to advanced age or sickness has difficulty mixing or has decreased communication or mobility capacity, thus favouring social participation and dependency prevention.”
Hmmm… “decreased communication capacity,” must remember to mention Dave to them…
