The Guardia Civil carried out a controlled explosion of a Civil-War-era artillery shell, found next to a road in the municipality of Lujar.
The bomb-disposal branch of the Guardia Civil, the Edex, identified the projectile as a 110 mm artillery shell containing three kilos of high explosives with an intact fuse in place, meaning that it was over 70 years old.
This is the second explosive artifact to appear in the area in the last few months because another shell had been found next to the Motril Spanish Air Force base, EVA-9 on the eastern outskirts of Motril.
