La Herradura will hold the I Ruta del Puchero de la Abuela, starting this Friday the 5th, running until Monday the 8th. So what’s it about?
A puchero is basically a stew, much the same as an estofado, cocido or guiso, the only difference being the contents; if its got haricot beans and rice, its a puchero and if it has potatoes and red meat, it’s an estofado. Guisar means to stew.
They’re all comida de cuchara (spoon food), which is just the job during the colder months.
The abuela bit doesn’t need translating so the Ruta del Puchero is a comprised of 14 eating houses, divided between two different routes, each with a different comida de cuchara on offer.
The First Councillor, Sr. Ruiz Joya, explained that the idea is a winter version of the Ruta de la Tapa.
Right, who’s participating and on which route will you find them:
Red Route: La Barraca, El Mirador de Cerro Gordo, El Chambao de Vicente, La Bamba, El Chiringuito Cúpula Playa, El Restaurante Almanza and El Mesón Baena.
Green Route: La Barrica, La Taberna Los Toneles, El Restaurante Las Maravillas, El Mesón El Tinao, La Tapería, El Café Toscana and Marina Playa.

Now, you’re probably wondering how the devil you could manage countless plates of stew, staggering from one eating house to the next, but there’s no need to worry because each on is only tapa size.
There will be a card (passport), which you get stamped at each place visited on the same route, and four stamps makes you eligible for a prize.
The passports are available in every venue.
