Almuñécar Main-Road Roundabout Work

N-340 almunecar roundabout embellishedWork is taking place for the “embellishment” of the N-340 roundabout in Almuñécar, giving access to Urb. Los Pinos.

At present the roundabout is filled with aggregate (stones used for roadbeds) which is being removed, and the project will have the whole area paved with coloured flagstones; some light coloured, others dark.

In the centre will stand a very high lamppost with four flood lights crowning it.

The work, worth 20,000 euros, is being carried out by the local company, Cofer Asfalto and will take three months, explained the Councillor for Public Works and Maintenance, José Manuel Fernández.

Editorial Comment: Sigh! An ostentatious project planned to conclude a couple of months before the local elections, on a superfluous roundabout built by the Benavides’ administration.

This weekend saw a nationwide collection of non-perishable foodstuffs for the social food banks that are catering for the million-odd families living below the poverty line… Local supermarkets had volunteers there to encourage shoppers to leave food donations. In the meantime, the Town Hall spends 20,000 euros on tarting up an unnecessary roundabout.

Yes, a local company is being supported and their workers can put food on their family’s table, but at least an essential project could have been selected, no?
