Just where Calle Real divides into Calle Alta del Mar and Calle Baja del Mar there is a thick-glass display set into a wall which protects a water system from the Roman era.
This subterranean waterway carried water down to the Plaza de la Rosa where in times long past there were pools or tanks for fish-salting. Excavations also turned up the broken remains of many amphoras.
The work carried out was to clear the system of plants, roots and moss before installing a new, stainless steel frame for the reinforced-glass cover.
