Traffic Light Mayhem in Granada City

AND Granada JamGetting in an out of the city of Granada via the Méndez Nuñez exit junction is a nightmare at the best of times but the day the traffic lights failed…

The Méndez Nuñez junction is probably the busiest entrance into Granada so that during the rush hour, the traffic on the by-pass backs right up.

In the meantime, below the junction on the roundabout, traffic lights cope with the drivers fighting to access the bypass to exit Granada or get onto the main thoroughfare through the city.

It was during the midday rush hour on the 23rd that these traffic lights broke down and such was the chaos that the vast majority of the city’s municipal police were dragged away from their normal tasks around the city to try and untangle the monster queues  which reached from the bypass access junction all along Avenida de Fuente Nueva as far as Calle Doctor Severo Ochoa.

The police were posted on every junction along the way to stop more traffic adding to it.

It took two hours to clear the jam and get the lights working again.
