There are quite a few people who suffer from arachnophobia, for whom just the very thought of this next story would give them the heebie jeebies for a year!
The story begins with a young Australian tourist, Dylan Thomas, 21, who was enjoying his trip to Bali, only to wake up one morning with a red line on his skin from his chest down to his navel. Being young, Australian and tough, he didn’t take too much notice… however, the line began to get longer.
Presenting himself at the Bali International Medical Centre, he was seen by a doctor who prescribed some antihistamine cream and sent on his merry way. However, the red line began to blister and cause him a good deal of discomfort. The young Australian decided that enough was enough and sought the advice of a specialist.
Dylan was more than a little shocked when doctors informed him that a spider had burrowed beneath his skin and worked it’s way down to his abdomen.
With a typically Australian take, he told NT News, “It takes a lot to deter me… but I do feel violated.”
It’s unclear what type of spider did the burrowing, but after it’s removal it was taken away for tests to establish exactly wanted to get close up and friendly with an Australian tourist.
“It was a very bizarre experience knowing that something like that was inside me for a couple of days.” concluded Dylan.
As with all things in these social media frenzied days, Dylan has become somewhat of a star, showing off his red line to the world… mind you… I’ve seen a few people return from Bali with similar nasty rashes which had nothing to do with spiders.
