A French paraglider pilot was seriously injured when he plummeted onto La Herradura beach whilst attempting to land.
For reasons, to date unknown, the man was approaching the beach for landing when he lost control and crashed onto the sand from about ten metres up.
The 53-year-old Frenchman had come down from Granada in order to launch from the Punta de la Mona during the afternoon; the morning had seen rain but the afternoon conditions were good with a light breeze from the west.
Witnesses to the accident contacted the emergency services around 16.00h and personnel from the Policía Local, Guardia Civil and Fire Service took part in the call-out, as did a medivac helicopter from Málaga.
After the ambulance crew treated him to stabilize his condition, he was flown to the main hospital in Granada.
