Did you know that the Cueva de Nerja is the most frequented cave complex by tourists in the whole of Spain? Well that’s why they’ve decided to improve the entrance, no doubt.
The Cave Foundation, which manages it, had a meeting and unanimously decided to approve a modification to the 2014 budget, which was set at 3.9m euros, to increase it by 100,000 euros.
With this extra money, which was generated by higher visitor numbers during the year, the plan is to carry out work on the entrance to the caves, explained the Foundation Chairman, Ángel Ruiz.
The enlargement work is not only designed to facilitate and organise better group visits, but also provide space for information panels (audiovisual), etc. prior to visitors descending. This information includes audio guides and even downloadable apps for the caves.
Some of the money, however, will go on publicity because this year is the 55th anniversary of the discovery of the caves, back in 1959. The celebrations this year will include original photos from the discovery.
Finally, the Fundación Cueva de Nerja has also approved the basis for the selection of a candidate for the Curator post for the Museo de la Cueva de Nerja, after the death in August of the previous curator, Ana María Márquez.
