A woman managed to escape by jumping out of a window in her home after her partner opened fire on her with a pistol.
The incident, which took place at the beginning of the month on Calle Antonia Calas in Madrid, involved a 65-year-old man and his 25-year-old Romanian companion.
The couple had spent several years living together but the relationship had ended five months previously… at least as far as the woman was concerned, but not so the man, who had used his old set of keys to enter the apartment.
It was at 14.50h when he walked in and the woman was not alone; she was with a female friend. An argument immediately broke out, punctuated by the man slapping the woman before pulling out a pistol from his trouser pocket.
He pointed it at her neck a fired, or at least tried to but the pistol jammed, however, he did manage to get two shots off before she disappeared through the window.
The fleeing woman, Mónica Claudia V, was fortunate to have her fall broken by a ground-floor awning. Even so, she was treated by an ambulance crew for what was described as ‘light injuries,’ and didn’t require hospital treatment.
In the meantime the woman’s friend had been screaming energetically for the police, who arrived impressively promptly. They hammered on the door but the aggressor hesitated several minutes in order to hide the firearm before opening the door. He also had time to inform the other woman that he would kill her if she ‘spilled the beans.’
His efforts proved futile because the police soon found the weapon – it was loaded, with the safety off, but jammed. With the pistol now in their possession they arrested the man, José D.R. who now faces several charges.
Oh, and whilst searching the flat for the pistol, they found three shotguns…
Oh well, another story of true love gone astray, no?
