It was a Monday ‘teatime’ when the Guardia Civil stopped a Mercedes at a road check on the A-92 within the municipality of Cúllar.
Inside the detained vehicle were two British gentlemen; one was engaged in an energetic phone conversation. Barely seven kilometres distant another patrol car noticed a vehicle hurriedly exit the A-92 and take a secondary road; they decided to follow the vehicle.
Realising that he was being followed, the driver threw a GPS, a mobile phone and other items out of the window and increased speed. The situation turned into a pursuit with the suspect’s car finally coming off the road and the driver arrested after the police found 33 kilos of marihuana in the boot.
Meanwhile, back at the first car and with the officers in contact with the other patrol car, the Guardia Civil realised that the first car was scouting for the car carrying the drugs; i.e., driving ahead to warn of police checks. Amongst the documents found was the rental contract for the second car…
The day ended with the three arrested.
Curiously, only the day before on the same road and very close to where the Monday incident would later take place, the Guardia Civil intercepted another British driver with 130 kilos of vacuumed-packed marihuana on board.
In both incidents the cars were en route to Valencia, police believe.
