Two Days of High Winds on The Coast

storm damage in motrilEarly morning yesterday trees were brought down by strong winds in Motril while in Almuñécar, Today, two palm trees were toppled as well.

It was the last day of September and the wind was gusting at 66 kph in Motril and at 70 kph down at the port. Between 04.00h and 05.00h the fire service was called out to remove three fallen trees that were blocking the N-340.

One of the three came down in Torrenueva, blocking the Málaga-bound lane of the N-340 – firemen had to saw it up into manageable pieces in order to shift it.

Another had completely blocked the road between Puntalón and Carchuna, taking down telephone poles with it. The third tree was also in the Puntalón area near the football ground.

The firemen also had to deal with an awning that had been torn from the facade of a 5th-floor flat along the Avenida de Salobreña.

Tree fall BonseiBut the wind has carried on into today and around 16.00h two palm trees crashed to the ground in the Bonsai Park, fortunately nobody was in the park at the time.
