The Guardia Civil in Nerja has arrested the suspected culprit of numerous thefts carried out on beach users. The police operation was menacingly named… Potato!

According to the police, there was an increase in the theft of handbags, backpacks and other personal belongings on the beaches whilst their owners were bathing in the water. The police suspected that the culprit took advantage of the cliff backdrops to some beaches to hide and observe, waiting for his moment to strike.

The police investigation was helped by descriptions given by the victims, which finally led to the 23-year-old man’s arrest. A subsequent search of the arrested man’s home turned up a quantity of stolen items.
