Forensic experts from the Guardia Civil have determined the starting point of the Rio Seco Alto fire on the 5th of September.
In fact, all indicators discovered at several different points of the fire’s extent lead back to the same starting point; next to one particular cortijo where there was a large pile of ashes. This pile of ashes had not been produced by the fire, but rather had been dumped there.
After verbal enquiries amongst the nearby cortijo owners the investigators concluded that the owner of one of them had lit a wood-fired bread oven to make bread and that once it had been baked, the ashes had been emptied out, apparently without the person checking to make sure that the embers were all out.
Consequently, the Guardia Civil arrested a 42-year-old suspect.
No further information has been provided as to his identity nor nationality, although if the second was not mentioned, it was because he wasn’t foreign.
