Plaza de Picasso in Salobreña

plaza picasso in salobreñaThe renovation work in the Plaza de Picasso, Salobreña has included the removal of two ficus trees. The roots of such trees are a nightmare as they extend rapidly and are destructive.

The roots of these two trees had got into the drainage pipes and had lifted pavements in the square, explained the Mayor, Gonzalo Fernández Pulido. The roots had also worked their way into the foundations of nearby apartment blocks.

Another reason for their removal was their propensity to suffer branch breakages in strong winds, which was a danger in such a transited square.

But the square will not be a treeless one, as less problematic species will be planted in their place.
