At 09.00h this morning, Thursday the 28th, the body of an elderly woman was found off San Cristóbal in Almuñécar.

A beach goer had seen the body floating in the water and  contacted the Policía Local.

Shortly after, a Guardia Civil patrol launch retrieved the body and took it to Marina del Este for identification and a coroner’s certificate.

First reports indicate that it was a 70-year-old woman from Jaen, who regularly spends the summer in Almuñécar, in a flat on Avenida de Europa.

The cause of death is still not known.

Update: Turns out that the woman was suffering from Alzheimer’s and had been reported missing by her husband the previous evening.
