OK, it wasn’t a Guinness Book of Records entry but the total number of people who have used the Cantarriján shuttle this summer.
First of all, we’re sorry to say that we only have a photo with a cluster of politicians and only a sliver of the bus concerned, yet official, municipal press releases, from Motril, Salobreña and Almuñécar are politician heavy, naturally.
Having said that, un abrazo mu’ grande for Juan Manuel de Haros, who provides us with the vast majority of our Almuñécar/Herradura photos and who is also a good friend.
Anyway, the bus… ever since the Junta sensibly closed Playa Cantarriján to private cars, the Cantarriján bus service has provided a grinding shuttle service up and down the winding lane to the beach and back, thus preserving a nudist beach and natural-park access from an onslaught of private cars.
A big-wig from the Junta‘s Environmental Department, Inmaculada Oria, visited the beach, accompanied by the Mayor of Almuñécar, the Councillor for the Environment and an opposition politician, and all ‘reluctantly’ posed for the photo…
By the time that you read this in the hard copy, the shuttle service, which runs from 09.00h to 21.00h, making the descent and return every 15 minutes, will have concluded for another year.
the 20,000 figure was only up to the 15th of August, so the rest of the month has to be added, but even so at two euros the return trip, that’s a minimum of 40,000 euros – not to be sniffed at!
