A Nigerian man has been hospitalized in Alicante with symptoms similar to those of ebola victims.

He has been put in isolation at the Hospital Sant Joan in Alicante, says sources at the regional public-health board.

“At the moment there is only a suspicion that it could be ebola and now we are waiting for test results,” explained the Spokesperson of the Health Board. The said tests have been sent off to the Instituto de Microbiología del Hospital Carlos III in Madrid, where the Spanish missionary was treated before succumbing to the disease.

The Nigerian man, who arrived in Spain 15 days ago, was originally treated at the Hospital General de Alicante, where the doctors upon seeing the symptoms, took special precautions and had him transferred to Hospital de Sant Joan, which has been designated as a medical centre for possible Ebola cases in Alicante.

The Regional Government of Valencia has already had one scare over this disease this summer, when the protocol was activated over a patient in the Hospital la Fe in Valencia, which fortunately turned out to be a false alarm.
