Herradura’s New Medical Centre Christened

LHR New Medical Centre OnLThe new medical centre, located in the Río Jate Centre, has been named in honour of Francisco de Haro Caballero: Frasquito.

Frasquito, who practiced as the village doctor for decades, was represented by his grandchildren. In fact, he was the village ‘medical centre’ from the 50’s until his death in the late 80’s.

Frasquito did not hesistate to close his small drugstore to attend to patients from cortijos up in the hills, many remembered. It was for this reason that villagers feel that a debt has finally been repaid to this son of the village.

Present at the inauguration ceremony were the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, the First Councillor for La Herradura, J.J. Ruiz Joya and the Chairman of the Souther Granada public health area, Francisco Pérez.

The Mayor took advantage of the presence of the public-health bigwig to publicly request that the village be equipped with an ambulance.

La Herradura has a population of just under 4,000 inhabitants, according to the municipal records. Last year the old medical centre attended to 14,505 visits to the G.P., who also carried out 405 home visits. The paediatric service dealt with 6,308 visits.

The total cost of sorting out the 400 sq/m of the medical centre was just under a quarter of a million euros.
