The Policía Nacional in Almería arrested two men as suspects behind a violent robbery carried out in a bar; one that belonged to the mother of one of the suspects.

The plot begins when the police received a frantic call from a man to say that a man armed with a shotgun had burst into the bar, hit the female owner and tied her up, as well as threatening the son with the weapon.

The police rushed around to the scene of the robbery only to be told by the son that the assailant had fled. The police then began a search and. unfortunately for the son, found and arrested the robber on Calle Menta.

No sooner in handcuffs, the man claimed that the son had put him up to it: “I haven’t done anything; I’ve been set up,” he claimed. The son, he claimed, had allegedly promised him 10,000 euros if he could get hold of a firearm to carry out the raid.

The police then escorted him to a piece of waste ground where he said he had hidden the weapon, a skiing mask and cartridges, as well as a large knife, in a sports bag under a bush.

Subsequent enquiries indicated that the son had sent instructions just before the raid to the robber via Whatsapp giving instructions concerning the best moment to carry out the raid, because there would be no customers and that he would personally hand over the till’s takings and the contents of the gambling machines to him.

On the basis of that evidence, they arrested the son, 31-year-old J.M.G.G.

One can only imagine that had the mother had a sudden premonition 32 years ago of what was in store, she would probably have insisted on her husband using a condom… just saying!
