The Policía Nacional in Motril arrested a man for the alleged break-ins at eight cortijos on the Costa Tropical.
The 24-year-old suspect, who is from Eastern Europe and lives in Carchuna, is believe to have raided cortijos from Almuñécar to Motril, including inland Lobres.
Things came to a head a few days ago when a cortijo owner in the area reported a break-in and the theft of many farming and household items. The modus operandi coincided with the seven previous cases of burglary and thanks to citizen collaboration in the area investigations narrowed down to just one suspect.
When the suspects home was searched, around 40 stolen items were discovered, amongst them a nail gun, a laptop, a tablet computer, jump leads, a blow torch and a small electric oven.
