Two helicopters and five, land, fire units were used at the end of May to put out a fire in a rural area, north of Motril, above La Nacla.
The fire services of Infoca and the Motril bomberos were called out at around 19.00h with the helicopters water bombing the flames until they had to be withdrawn with the light fading. Fortunately, the land units, comprising of four fire trucks, managed to get the fire under control just after 21.00h.
But the flames weren’t the only problem, because the area is laced with high-tension cables strung between pylons. First indications are that just under two hectares were affected.
Fortunately it was not necessary to evacuate any of the rural dwellings in the area.
