Almuñécar Election Results

Both the PP and the PSOE took a tumble in the European Elections held in Almuñécar. However, Benavides’ party saw a significant rise in votes.

Benavides’ PA was not the only party that did well out of the PP/PSOE debacle as the IU and UPyD also did better than in 2009.

Vote losses for the PP and PSOE were 900 and 700 votes respectively whilst the PA gained and extra 1,000 votes. IU gained over 400 and UPyD 200 more than in 2009

The turn out wasn’t that impressive – surprising nobody – with only 6,690 voters participating out of a registered total of 18,740.

The winner was the PP;  i.e., the Mayor’s party, after dropping down from 3,086 votes in 2009 to 2,176.

Second was the PSOE who dropped from 2,560 votes n 2009 to 2,176 yesterday.

The PA came third gaining 1,103 votes compared to only 60 in 2009, but… remember: in 2009 Benavides was running under the colours of the CA and Luis Aragón led the PA so the 1,103-vote increase includes the hitherto CA votes.

The IU came fourth with 691 votes, compared with 267 in 2009 – almost 200% up.

The last position of relevance was UPyD who climbed from 112 votes in 2009 to 366 yesterday.

Hopefully, during the day, we will be hearing from the party leaders to give their interpretations of how things went for them and their rivals.
