OK, so it’s a flippant translation of the name of this small hamlet above La Herradura: Pago de Guerra Alto, but it had you guessing, eh!
Anyway, Pago de Guerra Alto celebrated the XIV Romería de Nuestra Señora de Fátima y Sagrado Corazón de Jesús last Sunday and residents and visitors had a good day up there.
The romeros (participants) set off in the cool of the early morning from the Ermita and headed towards the Cerro dela Bandera, wending past the scattered cortijos and ‘local nooks and crannies,’ before heading back to the Cortijo Cabrera, where the Mass was to be held.
The Cortijo Cabrera was also where the grub and drinks were to be taken; something that was not shunned… Black sausage and vino coritjero – need I say more!
Nice to see Tim Fear enjoying himself too… not sure if that list is V-bomber, cockpit cramp or not…
The Romeria was organized by the Asociación de Vecinos de Pago de Guerra Alto, with the collaboration of the Town Hall and the First Councillor of La Herradura.
