Wax and Accidents

ALM Wax Deposits OnLThe Almuñécar socialist opposition party has criticised the Mayor for the amount of wax on the streets, urging her to get it cleaned up before more accidents occur.

However, the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, says that municipal cleaning workers have been onto this since before Semana Santa even finished.

Councillor Luis Aragón explained that a crew of six have been cleaning the streets between five and nine in the morning, every day of the week – and he provided photos to prove it.

Some of the streets  cleared so far are: Calle Vélez, Calle Trinidad, Plaza de los Higuitos, Calle San Miguel, Calle Antigua, Calle Orovia and Calle Cala.

It’s worth noting that all of these streets are pedestrian ones but where the accidents are occurring is on the roads where riding a motorbike is perilous.

However, Sr. Aragón said that in the next few days Avenidas Costa del Sol and Europa, are being cleaned, to be followed by La Carrera de la Concepción and finally Avenida de Andalucía.

Editorial Comment: The elephant in the room is why these processions are allowed to use candles instead of electric imitation ones if the Town Hall is well aware that their use is causing accidents.

The answer is that nobody formally lodges a written complaint.

Somebody suggested to me that the processions should be held in the Municipal Sports stadium where the stands would give everybody an excellent view and the processions could go round as many times as they wanted without completely upsetting normal traffic around town.

But quite apart from all that, why aren’t the procession brotherhoods being sent the cleaning bill or ordered to get out and do it themselves?
