FC Barcelona turned up at lowly Granada CF yesterday evening, surely expecting a routine win. With the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Fabregas, it was surely a forgone conclusion that they would leave Granada with yet another win under their belts.
Well, tough titty Barça! As it was, Granada hero Brahimi got an early opener to put Granada 1-0 up. Incredibly, that was how it remained until the end of the game. However, it must be said that this result was underpinned by an inspired performance by the Granada goalkeeper, Orestis Karnezis, who just would not be beaten.
During the second half, Granada were pretty much encamped in their own half, battling against a continuous onslaught of Barça attacks, but their resilience was eventually rewarded with this win of the season, despite Barca enjoying 80% of possession!
It is unusual to report that Messi’s performance, apart from one near miss from a free kick, was largely pedestrian and lacking his normal devastating pace and finishing ability.
Barça will now be regrouping from this defeat, which leaves their title hopes hanging in the balance. Whereas the followers of the mighty Granada will still be partying this morning!
Well done, Boys!
