The Guardia Civil in Cádiz arrested 14 doctors as part of Operación Muscle against the illegal sale of anabolic steroids.

Eleven other individuals were also arrested, amongst them a hospital porter, a pharmacist’s assistant and a town-hall clerk.

The Guardia Civil began their investigation which culminated in the arrests after a public-health inspector detected irregularities in a pharmacy.

However, and surprisingly, the police investigation established that it was not the fruit of organized crime, but ‘a coincidence of illicit withdrawal of this medicine.’
